History
Always unique, Punch cigars get their name from Mr. Punch, a popular character from a European puppet show in the late 1800s. While the name certainly fits the characteristics of the cigar, I.E. they pack a punch. The borrowed popularity greatly added to Punch cigars early success. First registered in 1840 in Havana by a German business named Stockmann, the brand was eventually bought by Manuel Lopez Fernandez whose name is still on the Punch cigar band today.
Like most legacy Cuban cigar brands, Punch was reintroduced to the U.S market after the Cuban revolution and subsequent embargo on Cuban cigars. While the Villazon Family, then owners, moved productions to Tampa and Honduras, the Cuban Punch Cigar brand continues today as strong as ever.
The Punch portfolio is dominated by classic, yet fantastic, vitolas like the petit corona, double corona, petit Punch, and royal coronation. The full-bodied strength of punch attracts a fanatically loyal crowd of aficionados, as well as the newcomers and bargain hunters alike.
While the General Cigar-owned Honduran Punch certainly takes a page from the full-bodied playbook of the Cuban Punch cigars, there’s nothing like the original. Prime, aged tobaccos from the famed Pinar del Rio growing region compose this popular Cuban puro for a primo smoking experience. Interested in buying Punch cigars? Don’t hesitate, order yours today!
