About Montecristo Cigars

When it comes to cigars, Montecristos are the very definition of a Cuban cigar smoker's dream. Montecristos cigars are perhaps the best known and most popular Cuban cigars in the world. While rumors circulate that 25% of all cigars sold are Montecristo cigars, of course this is untrue, Montercistos are most certainly the leading cigar brand globally.

After purchasing the Particulares Factory in 1935, founder Alonso Menendez immediately launched a new brand, Montecristo. The name took root from the Alexander Dumas novel The Count of Monte Cristo, which happened to be a favorite of the lectors to read to the torcedors. By 1936 Menendez added a new partner to his firm- Menendez y Garcia and purchased the troubled H. Upmann Factory. By the following year Montecristo cigars had an exclusive distributorship with the distinguished British firm Hunters & Frankau, and the seeds for success were rightly sown.

Following decades of record success, the country of Cuba entered political turmoil, leading the brand to be seized by the government and Menendez and Garcia to flee the country. Eventually, the two would establish operations in the Dominican Republic under the Montecristo name. Currently, the Dominican Montecristos are managed by Altadis S.A.

Today, Montecristo still produces some of the finest cigars in the world including the No.2, Edmundo, 80th Anniversary, Open Eagle and many more. Modern Montecristo cigars are much the same as the originals with rich profiles, full bodies, and simply a one-of-a-kind smoking experience you can’t find anywhere else. Don’t wait, order your Montecristo cigars today!
